TENUTA SANT'ANTONIO AT DINNER WITH THE POPE AND THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY

The wines of Tenuta Sant’Antonio with traditional dishes from Verona to celebrate an historical meeting.

It is an honor the one reserved to the wines of Tenuta Sant’Antonio: to be chosen to accompany the dinner with the Pope Benedict XVI and the head of the Anglican Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of the Anglican Communion, Dr Rowan Williams.
A very important dinner thinking that the two Churches are separated from the sixteenth Century, that is from the schism occurred during the reign of Henry VIII. After the Second Vatican Council the relations have improved, but encounters between the top leaders of the two Churches are still very rare and it is a great honor to take part at them.
Tenuta Sant’Antonio matched its wines to the menu curated by the Associazione Arte in Tavola and the restaurant al Bersagliere of Verona, all based
on traditional dishes from Verona.
After an aperitif with a Soave Fontana and Valpolicella Nanfrè 2010, the Benancense pike appetizer was served with a Soave Superiore Monti Ceriani 2010. This was followed by bigoli al torchio with duck paired with Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso Monti Garbi 2009 and two Amarone - based dishes: the famous risotto and beef cheeks, naturally accompanied by Campo dei Gigli 2006. Traditional Venetian dessert with Recioto pears, chocolate and ice cream made of olive oil from Garda, all served with the Recioto Argille Bianche 2004 of Tenuta Sant’Antonio.
Tiziano Castagnedi participated with emotion to the sacred celebrations, accompanied by his family. Always devoted to Saint Anthony, Saint from which the estate takes its name, the brothers Castagnedi are proud to have contributed with their wines to celebrate this significant meeting.
